Why Willow?

Willow is a valuable plant in the natural ecosystem as it provides a wonderful bio-diverse habitat for insects, bees, and birds. Typically, willow is found as a succession species in wetlands, disturbed environments, and reclaimed areas to stabilize soils and provide habitat for pollinators, wildlife, songbirds, and caterpillars.

Willow contains two powerful growth hormones which make it ideal for propagation from cuttings along with high concentrations of salic acid or salicin which repels deer from grazing the leaves.

Living willow farm encourages you to learn about willow through weaving and growing different varieties. Making beautiful landscape art, garden structures and useful baskets for your home out of willow nourishes the land from which it is grown.

Living Willow Farm

Welcome to our heritage farm located in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains of Southeast Ohio. It is with great reverence and responsibility that we grow willow, which is a perennial woody plant to use in our art, design, and handicraft.

Additionally, we offer our willow harvest each year to basket makers, artists, sculptors, DIY, homesteaders, puppeteers, lantern parades, gardeners, florists, interior designers, architects, landscape architects, parks, schools, woodworkers, and weavers.

Demonstrating with managed willow groves the living lifecycle of farming, harvesting, and making a way to bring nature and humans into balance with each other, where one resides.
